Finlay spent several years working as the manager of a record shop and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of recorded music. He lives in Glasgow where he now works as a special education teacher, turning his hand to teaching fiddle at East Kilbride Arts Centre and for the Glasgow Fiddle Workshop.
